Closing Our Doors
Posted: ProgrammingAce @ Wed Jun 10, 2009 6:23 am
I simply don't have time to give this site the attention it deserves, so it sits here and languishes. Since I don't have the time to build and maintain the site, I don't really want to keep paying for it anymore. As of 7/27/2009, I will not be renewing the hosting plan and all of the content here will be gone. If there is anything you want to grab, i recommend doing so before that date.
If anyone is interested in the domain or the site itself, i'd be more then happy to turn them over for free. The only condition I have is that I will delete the users before handing it over. I don't want anyone else to have access to the password table (the passwords are hashed, but i'm not taking any chances).
When I have the time to maintain the site, it is capable of maintaining enough traffic to pay for it's self with google's adsense. Just by advertising some of the content that's already here, I've been able to pull more then 10,000 unique visitors per day. That's more then enough to have the site pay for it's self. The hosting only costs $14 per month, and the domains are both registered until 2010.
If anyone is interested, you can message me here or send me an email at ace@hackur.com
Otherwise, so long and thanks for all the fish.

Blade Runner Script and Storyboard. New Ending
Posted: ProgrammingAce @ Wed Mar 18, 2009 6:47 am
So I've gotten my grubby little mits on an original copy of the Blade Runner script and storyboard.
Before anyone asks, no i can't scan the whole thing in. It's several hundred pages and they're all in a glued binding. I'm lucky i was able to scan what i could.
I own the DVD for Blade Runner, but I've never managed to finish the damn thing. I'm sure i'd love it if i could, but I just don't have the time. I've run this script past a few people, and they all agree that the ending is nothing that was ever seen, in any of the various "director's cuts"
If you read all the way to the bottom, you'll see I've included a copy of the last few pages of the script. Enjoy!

Stunning Concept Artwork from Halo Wars
Posted: ProgrammingAce @ Tue Mar 17, 2009 5:50 pm
Over the last few days, I've been in contact with some of the former associates of Ensemble Studios, creators of the Age of Empire series, and most recently Halo Wars. Today, I'm proud to offer the artwork of Phil Wohr.

No More Heroes Concept Artwork
Posted: ProgrammingAce @ Mon Mar 16, 2009 1:58 am
Man, here's an odd one. One of the strangest, and best, titles in the Wii library. It takes an extraordinary game to rise above the chum that makes up the Wii library. Let's take a look at the artwork that inspired the game.

Resident Evil 5 Concept Art

This is one of those game series I could never get into, I'm not sure why. I've never subscribed to the game design theory that makes the player fight the controller. I understand why people like the series, but i guess it's just not for me.

The *other* Lost Fallout Game, Brotherhood of Steel 2.
Posted: ProgrammingAce @ Wed Mar 11, 2009 7:43 am
Ok, so I've been sitting on this for several years now because I didn't know how awesome Fallout really was. I had never played the games, sue me. Er... wait, actually don't sue me.
Most people who follow Fallout know about the canceled version of Fallout 3 codenamed Van Buren, few know about the *other* canceled project, Brotherhood of Steel 2.
It seems Interplay knew the first BoS game wasn't very good. They were using it as a platform to pay for the development costs of the engine and to fund the second game. They went out of business before they were able to execute this plan.
Several years ago, I was given a copy of the design document for this game, the bible on which the game would be based. Now I'm going to share it with the community.

Concept art from the original Star Wars
Posted: ProgrammingAce @ Wed Mar 11, 2009 6:44 am
We're going to stray a bit here to look at concept art from a series that has spawned no less then 109 games (according to wikipedia).
Since our focus here is on the artwork behind gaming, I ran into someone who was selling production shots from a set he had purchased from a large movie production house. In this set were a number of photos from the original Star Wars, including a piece of concept art I've included below. I now own both pictures, the second one helps to validate the authenticity of the first. I don't know how many people have photos of Carrie Fisher getting smashed.
On the back of the first piece, "A. Guinness" is written in pencil.

Kingdom Hearts Concept Art

Since the Final Fantasy VII art was so popular, I decided to see what else I could find from Square. Kingdom Hearts fits the bill.

Final Fantasy High Rez Concept Art

I was digging through a stack of discs and came across a press kit for Final Fantasy VII. After working with Jurai to convert the ancient files, I present them in all their glory... or something.
